Changes To Fotolia Video Sales

Fotolia has made changes to their sales and commission structure, announced a couple of days ago via their newsletter. Today the new redesigned website is live, affectionately called v3. The general buzz around the forums centre on the photo side of their business, with contributors complaining about another cut in commission for photo sales.

Video contributors on the other hand have been given what they were asking for, no full HD video downloads on the subscription plan. Fotolia have scrapped that totally, while still offering a subscription plan for video customers, the size is limited to "Big Web" only, the size being 640 x 480. A standard contributor with no additional rank would earn $6.25 if the subscription was a non yearly package, if the customers uses a yearly subscription package then the contributor would earn $2.50 per subscription sale.

On The pay as you go credit sales, a standard contributor with no additional rank would earn for a full HD 1920 x 1080 sale $15.00 this is a 30% commission. The same contributor would get $3.00 for a "Small Web" size sale which is 320 x 240.

Maybe for some video contributors it will now put Fotolia back on the list to consider uploading too, I know I had not uploaded video to Fotolia because of the High Definition subscription sales with no opt out. Fotolia have changed this, I can live with a subscription sale on video of 640 x 480 of between $6.25 or $3.00 this is close to Shutterstock subscription levels.

Fotolia is also a great agency to reach the European market, they do very well in the German and French markets. So what do you think, will these changes get you submitting to Fotolia?

Hmmm, I stopped uploading photos there. I wonder if I should start adding videos to that site again though, now after the changes. Would it be worth mass uploading about 150 clips? opinion?

This is a personal decision, and policies change at microstock sites, what seems a good deal today can change overnight, if your comfortable with that then you have little to loose by trying.
