Using The Nikon G To EOS Adapter

I recently returned from a trip to film in Scotland and England, for this trip I took my Panasonic TM700 which did get a lot of use, especially for time lapse work. I also take a lot of still photographs for my stock photography portfolio using a Nikon D300, so I decided to get a Nikon G to EOS adapter so I can use my Nikon mount Tokina 11-16 f2.8 lens on my Canon 7D.

RinbowImaging Nikon G AFS DX Lens to Canon EOS Adapter, for Canon !Ds, 1D, 5D, 7D 60D, 50D, 40D, 30D, 600D 550D 500D 1000D 450D, 400D, 350D, 300D, etc,, with Aperture Control Nikon G - Canon)

The adapter really saves you the money of buying two lenses, if you are like me and have difficulty in making up your mind on Canon or Nikon systems. I had the Nikon D300 before I bought the Canon 7D, I had thought I would change over entirely to Canon, but I feel really happy with my Nikon workflow for stock photography.

This adapter is the model without the focus detect chip, I felt that i didn't need that feature as I shoot with a 7" Lilliput external monitor with my Canon 7D. This makes focusing so much easier on the monitor, using the Canon image magnifier for critical focus.

In the field the adapter works well, it has the aperture control which you adjust with the small lever, it is a small distance to go from maximum to minimum aperture, but a bit of practice soon has you changing exposure very well. It seems most of the time we want shallow depth of field anyway. I like the adjustable aperture for very sunny conditions and when you have run out of available polarizing and neutral density filters,  this adapter does help a lot reducing exposure. My other lenses for the Canon 7D are the Canon 50mm f1.4 and I have four old Nikon AI manual lenses which have aperture rings, so for those lenses I have bought each lens the cheap Nikon to EOS adapter and a new Canon style rear lens cap.

So if you have some Nikon G glass you want to mount on your Canon HD-DSLR or even Olympus, Sony or Pentax give these G style adapters a go they are worth the $50.00 and there are a lot of good video quality Nikon G style lenses available cheap.
