Are HD-DSLR Cameras Good Video Cameras?

I came across this podcast of  Dave Klafkowski from The Farm Group explaining why using the Canon 5D MkII camera for broadcast is full of problems. I'm not saying that these apply to stock video and how we work, but I found it a great educational primer for still photographers discovering stock video and being confused to the quality of video output.

Not all high definition video is created equally, compression and video codecs do affect the raw output from a camera. A lot of the time the media we deal with as stock photographers are just raving about some new piece of equipment, reviewers tend to be still photographers and the video aspects of the camera is very brief and superficial coverage. This podcast takes you to the thinking behind the British BBC, many regard as the gold standard of broadcasting. While they like the Canon 5D they are not shy about telling why it isn't the be all and end all of the present road to convergence in video and maybe convergence will never happen between still photography and video equipment.

Aspects that surprised me was the technical head of the BBC said in the podcast in response to a question at the end, that 720p is classed by the BBC as standard definition. Please listen and become more educated on your equipment and expectations for stock video.
